It's a never-ending debate among football fans: Who are the best clubs in the world right now?

As matches are played and standings are updated, the answer can differ from one day to the next. The winners of the Champions League are usually considered the best club of that season, with the domestic title holders from Europe's bigger leagues also mentioned among the best.

Pundits are often seen and heard discussing this topic as well, and Gordon Strachan has now thrown his voice in amongst the many who seek to answer the question.

Speaking to Lord Ping, the former Premier League player and manager made his case that most of the world's top clubs currently reside in England, where the title race between Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal is one of the biggest stories of the season worldwide.

Strachan also pointed to Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fourth and are playing an exciting style under manager Ange Postecoglou. While he doesn't believe Tottenham will be a serious threat for the Premier League crown, he does think that they are among the top teams in the world at the moment.

"I think it will be hard for Tottenham to challenge for the title this season." he said. "What I would say is that I really believe that the four or five best clubs in the world right now are three from the Premier League in Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

"Then you could possibly put Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in there and then it’s probably Tottenham.

"That’s what Ange has done at Tottenham. He has put Tottenham into the conversation concerning Europe’s leading clubs and he has brought a respectability back to the football club in terms of the playing style."
