Liverpool have it all to play for this season while City can still chase glory.

Manchester City faced Liverpool last month in the FA Cup, with Liverpool emerging victorious in their battle against the other best side in England right now.

Arguably they are also the best two sides in the whole of Europe, and having met twice in the league and once at Wembley already this season, there was — until last week — the possibility of another match-up at the season's denouement in Paris.

Liverpool have now collected the League Cup and are on the cusp of an FA Cup triumph — if they win the final — but also remain in the hunt for the Premier League and Champions League, with City also in the mix for the former.

We look at how both sides can win the remaining trophies on offer this season.

How can Liverpool win the quadruple?

Simply, they need to win the league, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.

Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28. Win that match and they will have locked up the biggest of the available trophies.

As well as that they will need to leapfrog Manchester City in the domestic league table. After 36 games Liverpool have 86 points and a goal difference of +65. City have played the same number of games and have 89 points with a goal difference of +72. With two more games to play and the standard of both sides, it is more than likely that the league winners will not be known until the last day of the season, Sunday May 22.

City host Aston Villa, while Liverpool welcome Wolves on the final weekend of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

How can Manchester City win the double?

As above, they are in a tight league title race with Liverpool with three games to play.

Unfortunately for the Sky Blues, their hopes of a double vanished with their stunning second-leg capitulation to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final last week.

When will they play each other next?

Had City held on against Madrid, they would have faced one another in the Champions League final on Saturday May 28.

Could they face each other again?

As noted, they could have faced off in the season's biggest club match on Saturday 28 May. The fixture was moved from St Petersburg and will be played at the Stade de France in Paris.

What happened when they played this season?

After both league games the honours are even, with no side having the edge. On October 3 Liverpool drew 2-2 at home to Manchester City, and on April 10 the two sides drew 2-2 again in the return fixture. So far there is barely anything to separate Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp’s respective squads.
