This year's World Cup in Qatar will be the first ever tournament to take place during the northern hemisphere's winter. 

However, this has created a logistical nightmare for European leagues whose fixture lists get congested during this period, none more so than the Premier League. 

DAZN breaks down all the important dates fans need to know for the 2022/23 Premier League and how they are affected by the World Cup. 

2022/23 Premier League season start and pause date

The upcoming Premier League season will start on August 5 when Crystal Palace welcome Arsenal to Selhurst Park. 

The last set of matches before the World Cup will over the weekend of November 12-13 before the call up period for the tournment on November 14.

When does the 2022 World Cup take place?

The World Cup in Qatar starts on November 21 when the Netherlands take on Senegal at the Al Thumama Stadium. 

The tournament will then continue until the final which is scheduled for December 18 at Lusail Stadium in Doha. Check out the full schedule here.

What day does the 2022/23 Premier League season resume?

Following the final, the 2022/23 Premier League season will resume on Boxing Day (December 26). It's an English football tradition for games to take place on this particular.

The season will then carry on until the final round of matches which are set for May 28 2023.
