It's Matchday 3 of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League, and Germany visit Hungary in search of a first win of the competition.
The Germans have rung off two straight draws to open their tournament, both 1-1 draws (at Italy and vs. England). Now they travel to Budapest for a Saturday clash with the Hungarians, who are coming off a 2-1 loss to Italy but still sit one point above Germany thanks to a victory on the first matchday.
Hansi Flick, the German manager, has liked what he's seen from his players this week and expects a real challenge in Budapest.
"We were very happy with the final training session," Flick said on Friday.
"After England, this [Hungary match] is the toughest test that you could face. Hungary are very compact at the back and don’t leave a lot of space. We have to build on the performance against England and everyone has to give it 100 percent. It will be a very difficult task."
But while Flick respects the Hungarian side, he still expects Germany to prevail — perhaps with a rotated line-up.
"We want to pick up the three points," he said. "We want to reward ourselves for all the effort we have put in.
"It is important that we concentrate and are serious in our approach. It was a big step in the right direction against England and we have to build on it. It will be ideal if we are well-drilled going into the World Cup but we also want to give other players opportunities. Our focus though is on the result."
