Ilkay Gundogan double sees Manchester City beat Manchester United in FA Cup final

Two goals from captain Ilkay Gundogan helped Manchester City triumph over rivals Manchester United in this season's FA Cup final.

In front of an raucous atmosphere at Wembley Stadium, City took the lead within 12 seconds of the first whistle after an exceptional volley from the German in what is now the fastest goal in FA Cup final history.

Three minutes later, Rodri almost made it 2-0, but his header from Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick was just wide.

United equalised with a penalty in the 33rd minute scored by Bruno Fernandes after the referee Paul Tierney awarded the Red Devils a spot kick following a VAR check on a Jack Grealish handball.

With the score 1-1 at halftime, City needed to wrestle back control after United's equaliser and they took the lead once more through a Gundogan volley. The midfielder latched onto a De Bruyne free-kick in the 52nd minuted and fired his shot into the left hand corner of David de Gea's goal.

United continually prodded and probed as they searched for an equaliser with substitute Alejandro Garnacho's curling effort going just wide of Stefan Ortega's left hand post.

Despite the urgency in United's attacks in the closing stages, City managed to keep the Red Devils at bay for the rest of the game.

But while lifting this season's FA Cup was in no doubt a huge moment for Pep Guardiola's team, attention has already shifted to next week's UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan where the Blues could win their first major European title and become the first team since 1999 to win the Treble.
