A pair of second-place teams face off in the round of 16 of the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League, with Inter taking on Liverpool.
The sides are both chasing the top spot of their respective domestic leagues, although Inter's in a more enviable position at just a point behind rival Milan at the top of the Serie A table. Meanwhile, a nine-point deficit stands in Liverpool's way as Manchester City still rules the Premier League roost.
The Reds are coming off a 1-0 win at Burnley over the weekend — Liverpool's fourth league victory in a row — and manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that his men can continue their domestic momentum in continental play.
"The difference is massive between Burnley and Inter in some parts obviously, but in other parts not so much because it’s a football game and still a football game," Klopp said. "If we are dominant then Inter will defend pretty compact."
Despite the Nerazzurri's current runner-up standing in Serie A, Klopp sees Inter as the top side in that competition and one that his Liverpool team will have to be on form to defeat.
"With all respect to the other teams, I think it’s probably the best team this year again in Italy, you can see it in the table at the moment," he said. "They look really rock-solid, they have creativity on the pitch, they are very well organised, very well drilled in everything they do. And the individual quality is big."
