This impressive record includes a match against Spain, who themselves steamrolled the competition in the first two games before being humbled 4-0 by the Asian side.
The confidence gained from the Spain victory should bode well for Japan against the Norwegians, who were far less convincing in their trio of group-stage matches.
Norway fell 1-0 to co-hosts New Zealand in the WWC opening match, drew 0-0 against eventual group winners Switzerland then pummeled World Cup debutantes Philippines 6-0 to book their place in this match.
