Joe Willock was Johnny-on-the-spot for Newcastle United on Sunday, scoring an 85th-minute goal in a 2-2 draw against visiting Tottenham Hotspur.
The 21-year-old pounced on a rebound inside the six-yard box and fired home the equalizer for Newcastle after it looked like Spurs would head home with all three points, giving the hosts a much-needed point as they continue their battle to stay out of the relegation zone.
With the draw, Newcastle remains in 17th place in the Premier League for the time being (pending 18th-place Fulham's result later Sunday).
For Willock, the chance to play an important role for Newcastle is a big reason why he joined the club on loan from Arsenal in February. And an opportunity to deny Tottenham full points is always a plus for a member of the Gunners, on loan or otherwise.
"I'm an Arsenal player so it does make it a bit sweeter [to score against Spurs], but I'm happy to come here and do my job, you know, come on the pitch and make an impact like the manager told me to do," Willock told Sky Sports after the match. "I thought we played well — the boys played really well, you know, so being behind I thought it was a bit harsh, so I'm happy I can come on and make a big impact like that."
The draw kept Tottenham from pulling level on points with fourth-place Chelsea. Spurs are fifth with 49 points after 30 matches.
