Jose Mourinho has admitted that he has no 'close bond' with Tottenham Hotspur after being sacked by the club in April 2021.

The Portuguese coach, who is a serial winner, failed to end Spurs' trophy 15-year drought during his 17 months in charge, becoming the only managerial spell where Mourinho has not won any silverware.

Mourinho's time at Spurs came to an end days before the 2020/21 League Cup Final, a game which the team would lose 1-0 to Manchester City, and then joined Italian club Roma the following summer where he won last season's Europa Conference League.

Reflecting on his time with Spurs with reporters, Mourinho admitted that this specific period is one that he does not look back on fondly.

“I hope my words aren’t misinterpreted by Tottenham fans, but that’s the only club I don’t have a close bond with," Mourinho said.

"Probably because the stadium was empty at the time of Covid and because president Levy did not let me play the final and win the trophy.

"People aren’t stupid, they understand that I give everything, it’s not a question of winning titles or not, but the fans perceive if I fight for them every day.”

Mourinho has another chance of winning silverware with Roma when they take on Sevilla in next week's UEFA Europa League Final.
