Jurgen Klopp seems to have taken aim at Erik ten Hag for his handling of the Jadon Sancho situation.

Sancho is preparing to play in the Champions League final this Saturday with Borussia Dortmund, whom he had joined on loan from Manchester United at the beginning of the year. The move back to Germany marked the end of a tumultuous era for the 24-year-old England international, who made just three appearances for the Red Devils this season under Ten Hag.

All of those appearances came early in the campaign, before a public spat between the player and manager put an end to Sancho's playing time.

Now the futures of both Ten Hag and Sancho are uncertain, but Klopp seemingly placed the blame for the saga squarely at the feet of his United counterpart.

Speaking at An Evening with Jurgen Klopp, the departed Liverpool boss stressed the importance of strong relationships between players and the coaching staff befores making a thinly-veiled reference to a high-priced player sent out on loan who was not supported by his manager.

“If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player then the manager has to be the one behind the player,” Klopp said.

“I cannot just buy into that ‘he’s useless’ stuff like other clubs did by the way. Buying a player for £80m and then sending him out on loan!”
