When Juventus and Barcelona meet on Matchday 2 of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, it'll be a matchup of two traditional giants who find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances.
Juventus is technically unbeaten through five rounds of Serie A play, but with two wins and three draws the Bianconeri aren't exactly tearing up the domestic league. Juve sits in fifth place on the Serie A standings, although one would expect Andrea Pirlo's men to turn eventually some of those draws into wins.
Meanwhile, Barcelona's having its worst start to a La Liga campaign in years. The Blaugrana are 12th after posting a mediocre 2-1-2 record, although they have one or two games in hand on most of the teams in front of them.
What hasn't changed for either side is their results on the opening matchday of the Champions League. Both clubs won their respective fixtures rather easily, but all that proves is that a struggling Barcelona or Juventus is still far ahead of Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros — which comes as a surprise to no one.
It was always expected that Wednesday's game — along with the return match in Spain on Dec. 8 — would be the toughest test for both sides, and neither has shown to be particularly inspiring in the face of adversity so far in the young campaign.
