The Seagulls have been flirting with the relegation zone all season, but they edged past Spurs on Sunday.

A quartet of Premier League matches on Sunday was headlined by Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Brighton.

Leandro Trossard's 17th-minute strike was all the Seagulls needed to dispatch an abject Spurs side that only looked interested in the match as the clock ticked closer to 90 minutes. Brighton outshot, outchanced and outplayed their visitors en route to their first home win of the season.

It was a missed opportunity for Spurs, who could've climbed to fifth with a win. Instead it was relegation-threatened Brighton who were celebrating at the fulltime whistle, as the Seagulls climbed to seven points above the relegation zone.

Earlier Sunday, Thomas Tuchel earned his first victory as Chelsea manager, as the Blues ran out 2-0 winners over Burnley. Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso scored on either side of the half as Chelsea kept a second straight clean sheet under Tuchel.

The match was more one-sided than the score line suggested, as Chelsea held Burnley to just 28 percent possession while outshooting the Clarets 19-1. Tuchel's men could've found the net several more times, with Callum Hudson-Odoi coming closest to adding to the scoresheet when he hit the post, but the three points are all that Chelsea were looking for in a tight race inside the Premier League's top 10.

Elsewhere, Leeds United dealt a blow to Leicester's hopes of keeping up with the league leaders as Marcelo Bielsa's side claimed a 3-1 victory over the Foxes. Meanwhile, Liverpool appear to be back on form despite a neverending injury crisis as they defeated West Ham 3-1 on the back of a Mo Salah brace.
