On Monday, Liverpool showed it is still the top dog in the Premier League by downing Arsenal 3-1 in a top-of-the-table clash. On Thursday, Arsenal will look to exact some revenge in the Carabao Cup.
Thanks to some fortuitous scheduling, the Reds and Gunners will face off for the second time this week — albeit in different competitions — when they meet in the Carabao Cup Round of 16.
Arsenal was clearly second-best in Monday's Premier League contest, ceding superior possession, passing and shooting statistics to the defending champion. Despite that, the Gunners were still in the match right up until Diogo Joto sealed the victory for the Reds in the 88th minute.
With Monday's defeat still fresh, Arsenal heads back to Anfield in search of a bit of redemption. Mikel Arteta's men have already bested Liverpool in cup play this season — Arsenal claimed the FA Community Shield to kick off the 2020-21 campaign — so a positive result would not be unheard of.
That being said, Jurgen Klopp has Liverpool once again running like a finely-tuned machine, with the club's only blemish in all competitions so far being that Community Shield loss. Arsenal will have to be near-perfect if it hopes to escape Anfield with a berth in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.
