A pair of defensive miscues doomed RB Leipzig to a 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, and now the German side looks to reverse its fortunes.
The teams meet Wednesday in the second leg at the Puskas Arena in Bucharest, the same venue that hosted the first meeting in February, due to COVID-19 travel concerns. That means Liverpool will act as the home side outside of Anfield, which may be a blessing in disguise for the English club.
Liverpool has been sliding down the Premier League table in recent weeks, mostly because of the team's woeful performances at home. The Reds have dropped six straight league matches at Anfield for their first time ever, and they've been shut out for the three most recent matches. Needless to say, Jurgen Klopp's side is probably happy to get away for a brief respite.
Not that Leipzig will be a pushover — the Red Bulls have won four straight games since their first-leg loss to Liverpool and currently trail Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich by just two points. Leipzig will need to push for goals in Wednesday's contest, which could open things up enough for Liverpool to score its first goal in a match since the last time these teams met.
