Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes that much of the problems at Old Trafford are to do with the players.
There have been reports of dissent in the dressing room in recent weeks, and Ten Hag has reacted by banning several media outlets from press conferences.
That did not turn around their fortunes in their last two games, with a dreadful 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth followed by another loss at Old Trafford, as Bayern Munich won 1-0 on Tuesday night to knock United out of the Champions League and leaving them out of the running for Europa League spot, too.
Speaking to InstantCasino.com, Yorke - who won the treble with United in 1999 - thinks both the players and the manager are at fault for the poor season so far.
He said: “I wouldn't lay all the blame at the feet of Erik ten Hag - the players must take responsibility, too.
“It's never just the manager's fault. The players can do something about a result if they want to. They could put their heart and soul into their performances to make sure that the results don't repeat themselves at Anfield.
“I think United have themselves to blame, and that goes for the players as well as the manager. They made their Champions League group that was, on paper, relatively easy into one that has been extremely difficult. You would have thought that the United players would have rubbed their hands together when the draw was made and entered the Champions League with a lot of confidence.
“Man United would have qualified if they had done what everybody thought they would have. They wouldn't have had to deal with the hassle of having to face Bayern needing to win. United have made life difficult for themselves, and I blame the manager and players in equal measures. They've both got themselves into this situation.”
