Manchester City will need to do without Sergio Aguero for a little while longer.

Aguero announced Thursday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus. This comes after he spent nearly two weeks in quarantine due to being in close contact with someone else who had tested positive.

The striker has been self-isolating since January 10, and Tuesday's news means that the Sky Blues will need to continue without the 32-year-old while he recovers.

"After a close contact, I've been self-isolating, and the latest test I took was positive for COVID-19, " Aguero tweeted Tuesday. "I had some symptoms, and I'm following doctor's orders for recovery. Take care, everyone!"

Aguero has struggled to see the field this season, making just two starts during the 2020-21 Premier League campaign thus far. He missed the beginning of the season recovering from a summer knee surgery, and a series of minor injuries kept him from playing heavy minutes after he recovered from the procedure.

The Argentine then missed the past four City matches while self-isolating.

There have been several positive COVID-19 cases in the City squad in recent weeks, with Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker and Ferran Torres among the players who have missed matches due to the coronavirus since December.

Despite the spate of cases, City has been the hottest team in the Premier League and sits two points back of first-place Manchester United with a game in hand.
