    Crisis in Manchester?

    While the red side of the city tries to navigate a historically slow start, the blue side is not much better off. Heading into Matchday 5, Manchester City sits in 14th place in the Premier League on just four points from three matches — only one point and two places better than cross-town rival Manchester United. It's true that both Manchester sides have a game in hand on most of the league, but that's not a good enough reason for their sluggish starts.

    For City, the campaign began with an expected victory over Wolves, and everything looked on track for another title run. Then came a 5-2 defeat to Leicester that no one but the Foxes saw coming, followed by a 1-1 draw with Leeds in which the newly-promoted side outpossessed and outpassed Pep Guardiola's men.

    The international break provided a brief respite for City, but a Matchday 5 date with Arsenal presents another early-season challenge for a team that hasn't dealt with adversity as well as it usually does.

    For the Gunners, Saturday's trip to Manchester represents another test against a traditional Premier League power. Arsenal is off to a good start to the 2020-21 campaign, but it stumbled in its only match against a fellow "Big 6" club (a 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sept. 28).

    A victory against City would continue Arsenal's upward trajectory under Mikel Arteta.
