Manchester City and Chelsea enter the Carabao Cup with arguably the hardest first fixture of any in this year's competition.
The teams meet Wednesday for their third round match, with both sides feeling the squeeze of a packed schedule ahead of the upcoming World Cup break. As usual, injuries and form will guide the managers' decisions for this match, and both sides are dealing with big absences.
Chelsea have been without Kepa Arrizabalaga and Reece James recently, with Mateo Kovacic dealing with a knee injury that the club say they've "managed really well." Apart from those names, the Blues expect most of the rest of their squad to be ready.
"Jorginho has a slight problem with his foot, so he’s doubtful for [Wednesday]," Chelsea manager Graham Potter said. "Apart from that we’re with pretty much the same group that we had [over the weekend]."
On the Man City side, Erling Haaland continues to be the biggest injury doubt as he deals with a foot issue.
“He is still not perfect still,” City boss Pep Guardiola said of his star striker. “We will see [Wednesday] and Saturday [ahead of the Premier League game against Brentford]. He is getting better. The main thing is the bone was not broken – the ligament is damaged a little bit, so he’s still not perfect right now."
