Manchester United walked away from the Etihad Stadium with three points after downing rival Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday.
The result means that City's 20-match winning streak (all competitions) comes to an end, while United leaps back into second place in the Premier League after temporarily sliding to third due to Leicester City's win a day previous.
Goals by Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw sealed the victory, as United struck early in each half. Fernandes' goal was the result of a penalty call inside the opening minute, as United's high press caused a turnover that forced a foul inside the City 18-yard box. Similarly, Shaw's strike came five minutes into the second half with United pressing.
Despite the goals, City finished with 67 percent possession and outshot the visitors 23-8, but United was content with absorbing the pressure and picking out opportunities to attack.
