Saturday brings the earliest Manchester Derby in a calendar year since 2006 as Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The teams both enter the weekend in the top four on the Premier League table, with City in second place behind league leaders Arsenal while United are just behind in fourth place (tied on points with Newcastle United). With both sides in the hunt for Champions League places, Sunday's derby takes on even more importance.
The Red Devils have been red-hot under Erik ten Hag since November, with eight wins in a row in all competitions and nine consecutive home victories. However, a 6-3 loss in the last Manchester Derby was one of the worst defeats of the season for United and won't be overlooked
“I think we can compete with every team but obviously Manchester City, when they’re at their best, they are hard opponents for everyone," Ten Hag told talkSPORT. "But we have to play our best and then we have a chance.
"If we do it, [play] like in City [in the 6-3 defeat], then you don’t have a chance. So it’s up to us to have a good team, the right co-operation, the right attitude on the pitch, especially if you talk about attitude. So a winning attitude. That is what we need on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, City are a formidable side as usual this season, but they are coming off a shock 2-0 Carabao Cup loss to Premier League cellar dwellars Southampton and now face a match agaist their local rivals on short rest.
“I think it is different, a different competition but of course if we perform in this way we will not have chance,” City manager Pep Guardiola said after his team's cup defeat.
“I know the moment they have and many years they were looking forward to stay in this position so we know exactly what we have to do to play better so we will try to do it.”
