Matchday 5 of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League group stage pits Manchester United against Paris Saint-Germain in a game that could decide the fate of Group H.
United heads into Wednesday's clash on nine points, three above second-place PSG (and third-place RB Leipzig). Neither the Red Devils nor the Parisians have cemented their berths in the round of 16, so Wednesday's match could determine one or both of the group's two advancing teams as well as its winner.
PSG's form of late has been decidedly mediocre for a team of its calibre, with the club claiming a win, loss and draw over its past three matches (in all competitions). Manager Thomas Tuchel voiced his displeasure with his team's play in Saturday's 2-2 Ligue 1 draw with Bordeaux, and star Neymar says Wednesday's match at Old Trafford is paramount as PSG tries to get back on track.
"We know the importance of the Champions League game on Wednesday. Like the Champions League game we played on Tuesday (vs. Leipzig). It is decisive, we didn’t play well, but we managed to win," Neymar told Canal Plus, as translated by Get Football France. "But on Wednesday we are going to try to do our best game, play well, but we need to improve certain details, play more as a team, be more organised, otherwise it is going to be difficult."
Meanwhile, United is riding the high of four straight wins across all competitions, the latest a thrilling comeback victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday. The Red Devils hold the mental advantage of having claimed the reverse fixture against PSG, 2-1, in France on Matchday 1, and they'll look to all-but seal up top spot in Group H with a victory at home on Wednesday.
