The Toffees stole a much-needed three points at the Emirates on Friday.

When you're in the middle of a race for a Champions League spot, every goal is precious.

That was certainly the case for Everton on Friday as the club secured a crucial 0-1 win at Arsenal thanks to a nightmarish gaffe by Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

There was little between the sides until Leno's miscue, with Arsenal actually holding the edge in possession and chances but unable to find the back of the net against the visitors. When Richarlison attempted a low cross that Leno should've easily handled in the 76th minute, the 'keeper made a mess of things and allowed the ball to slip through his legs and into the net.

It was a shocking moment that turned the match on its head, and though it was clearly a fluke it was definitely welcomed by the Everton players.

"Best looking goal I've ever seen," Everton defender Mason Holgate told Sky Sports immediately following the final whistle. "No, obviously it's not the prettiest performance, but coming away to a team who loves to play football, it's all about fighting and digging deep, and then showing our quality when we got the ball. I think we did without looking majorly threatening."

The result puts Everton on 52 points, just three behind Chelsea for fourth place. Even though they've crept closer to the Champions League spots, there's still a ton of work to be done for the Toffees as they still sit in eighth place depite their similar points total to the clubs occupying the five spots above them.

Additionally, a win for Arsenal on Friday would've seen the Gunners level with Everton on points.

"They're one of the teams who wants the same thing as we do, so to beat them and take three points from them away from home is massive and goes towards our goal," Holgate said of the Gunners, who remain in ninth place on 46 points. "But we've got to pick these up consistently. I think, over the course of the season we've performed in games like this, and then games that we should be winning we've not been getting the three points.

"So it's about consistently keeping this form going on and keeping the results going."
