Mikel Arteta explains what was lacking in Arsenal's victory over Brighton

Mikel Arteta explains what was lacking in Arsenal's victory over BrightonDAZN

Arsenal scored twice in the second half to secure a 2-0 victory over visiting Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The result put the Gunners back on top of the Premier League standings, at least until the end of the ongoing Liverpool vs. Manchester United match.

While a bounce-back victory is always welcome, especially in a hotly-contested title race, there are always things that can be improved upon.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta heaped praise on his players for pulling out the victory against a tough Seagulls side, but he pointing to one area of the pitch in which he'd like to see his team do better.

"Incredible performance," Arteta told BBC Sport. "A joy to watch from the start to the end. The way we did it against this very good team.

"Even at half-time the scoreline didn’t reflect that. We fully deserved to win the game.

"We had 15 shots [in the first half], it was a lot. We had to keep going. We don’t have that accuracy in front of goal."

Arsenal's second goal didn't come until the 87th minute, when Kai Havertz went in alone on goal and fired a shot past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Havertz's strike allowed the Gunners to breathe after holding on to the one-goal lead amid a few scares at their own end.

Arteta was well aware of the threat that Brighton posed until Havertz put the result beyond doubt.

"That’s the Premier League," he said. "You see it in every game.

"We had many situations to put the ball in the net and we didn’t, 1-0 isn’t enough."
