Another jam-packed week of MLS action is upon us, after a small break to accommodate the start of the Gold Cup.
The week's biggest story is the return home of two Canadian teams, as Toronto FC and CF Montreal will each host games at their regular venues for the first time in 2021. It's been a long haul stateside for the two clubs, who along with the Vancouver Whitecaps, have spent most of the COVID-19 pandemic living out of hotel rooms as they hosted matches in empty U.S. venues.
Now back in Canada, Toronto and Montreal look to enjoy some home cooking. TFC, especially, hopes the return to BMO Field will help turn around a disastrous season that has already cost Chris Armas his head coaching job despite him never having coached the team in Canada. Toronto hosts familiar nemesis Orlando City on Saturday in front of 7,000 fans before welcoming the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday with a crowd of 15,000 (50 percent of BMO Field's capacity) expected.
The crowd in Quebec won't be as big, as current provincial regulations place a 5,000 cap on attendees. Still, the team formerly known as the Impact will welcome any home-field advantage it can get against FC Cincinnati on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Whitecaps will remain at their home away from home in suburban Salt Lake City for the time being, with the LA Galaxy (July 17) and Houston Dynamo (July 20) both making trips to Utah this week. In addition, Vancouver's temporary landlord, Real Salt Lake, will travel to Los Angeles to face LAFC at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday before returning home to host the Galaxy on Wednesday.
