The Major League Soccer season rolls on with another weekend full of action.
Among the more intriguing matches this week is the first one — Atlanta United, under interim head coach Rob Valentino, looks to earn three crucial points against visiting Eastern Conference foe Columbus Crew. Atlanta's season has been among the most dramatic in the league, with former head coach Gabriel Heinze having banished star striker Josef Martinez from the squad while the team struggled to find success under a new identity.
With Heinze gone, Martinez has pledged his allegiance to the Georgia-based side and the Five Stripes hope they can start rising back into the playoff places.
On Sunday, New England Revolution host CF Montreal in an unlikely meeting of two teams on great form. The Revs have hovered around the top of the standings all year, but Montreal has pulled off a string of recent excellent showings that sees it within touching distance of second place in the conference. That Montreal has accomplished this while only playing a single game at home — the team returned to Canada last week after a nearly year-long stay in the United States due to COVID-19 restrictions — is a testament to the way the players have responded under new head coach Wilfried Nancy.
Should the Quebec club grab three points in New England, it would be another in a growing list of impressive performances.
