The longest road trip in MLS history is almost complete.
Since last September, the Vancouver Whitecaps have played every one of their MLS games in the United States. Along with Toronto FC and CF Montreal, the Whitecaps were forced stateside late last summer due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in Canada, but unlike their fellow Canadian teams the 'Caps have not yet returned to host a home match.
That changes later this month, as the Whitecaps head back to BC Place on Aug. 21 for their first match at BC Place since 2020, but before that much-needed return the team still has two more games to play south of the border. Both of those come this week, with Vancouver heading to Northern California to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday night before they travel to Texas to take on expansion side Austin FC in a midweek clash at the beautiful new Q2 Stadium.
As much as Vancouver's players will be looking forward to their long-awaiting homecoming, they must first take care of business in this week's pair of contests to keep their fading playoff hopes alive.
