Toronto FC has had a season to forget.
Already on its second coach of the season after Chris Armas was fired in early July following a six-game losing streak, the once formidable team now sits dead last in MLS after 19 games played. And while the team has played better under interim boss Javier Perez, the turnaround hasn't been big enough to put the Reds into the playoff conversation.
Toronto has trudged its way through the toughest part of its schedule, and over the next few weeks, will face several teams that are in direct competition for the final few playoff berths. If TFC is to make anything of its season, the push will have to come over the next 3-4 weeks.
Perez's men can get off to a good start when they head to South Florida on Saturday to take on Inter Miami for the first time, with the second-year franchise looking every bit as vulnerable as TFC but without any recent history of success to draw upon. The match in Miami could go a long way toward re-igniting Toronto's faint postseason hopes — or it could be another in a growing list of failures for a side that was seen as a legitimate MLS Cup contender just last season.
The Reds are one of many teams that desperately need a win going into the abbreviated MLS All-Star break. But, will they pass the test?
