It may not be an official "rivalry week," but Week 4 of Major League Soccer 2021 season presents a few juicy rivalry match-ups.
Among the marquee contests on offer in a packed week of action are FC Dallas vs. Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy vs. LAFC, and Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders. Are three pairings are regional rivalries, of course, but the matches have all delivered on their hype in recent years.
The newest of the rivalries is the LA derby, also known as "El Trafico," which has delivered from the very first meeting. The Galaxy, led by striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, will look to get one-up on their crosstown foes. One big question mark is the availability of Chicharito's countryman Carlos Vela, the talisman of LAFC who has missed time with injury. If Vela's ready to go, both sides will be close to full strength and eager to fight for city bragging rights.
Along with the regular weekend matches, Week 4 offers seven-midweek contests as MLS swings into high gear. Among the teams pulling double duty this week are the Sounders, who stay on the road for their Wednesday night affair against the San Jose Earthquakes.
