Major League Soccer kicks off its new season this week, with winter making its last stand in many parts of North America.
As is usual with the start of a new campaign, all slates are wiped clean, and teams have another opportunity to shape their own narratives. Some clubs are better off than others in that regard, of course, and many of last year's most successful sides will be favoured to put together winning seasons this year as well.
In addition to new starts for the teams, there will be an influx of new players to the league that will look to make their mark. International stars Xherdan Shaqiri and Douglas Costa are among the more significant signings made in the offseason. They look set to make their debuts for Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy, respectively, this weekend.
Canadian fans will get a first glimpse of revamped Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps squads, although the former underwent a much bigger overhaul after a massively disappointing 2021 season. The Whitecaps visit Columbus Crew on Saturday, with TFC in Dallas a few hours later.
Meanwhile, CF Montreal supporters have already seen what their team has to offer, thanks to the CONCACAF Champions League. Montreal dominated Mexican club Santos Laguna in midweek to advance to the quarterfinals, but before that happens they'll face Orlando City in central Florida on Sunday.
