July is here, and MLS welcomes the new month with a full slate of matches on its first weekend.
With holiday celebrations happening on both sides of the border, the party atmosphere could permeate to the pitch with several good-looking matches in store. Kicking things off are Toronto FC and the Seattle Sounders, who meet Saturday at BMO Field. The teams have been, up until recently, repeat opponents in the MLS Cup, and both are looking to make a push to get back to the grand stage.
Seattle's further along than Toronto, with the Sounders now seemingly embarking on their annual midseason hot streak. TFC, meanwhile, have Italian stars Lorenzo Insigne and Domenico Criscito waiting in the wings for their official debuts next week, and may have more additions to come, but they've played better with their established roster over the past few weeks and will look to continue a strong run of form on home soil.
Later Saturday, the Vancouver Whitecaps welcome LAFC to BC Place. The Southern California side are tops in the entire league and are on the verge of adding Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini to an already stacked line-up. Fortunately for the Whitecaps they won't have to face Bale and Chiellini, but LAFC will prove formidable regardless of who is on the field.
Monday is Independence Day in the U.S., and CF Montreal will be spending the American holiday in Los Angeles to face the LA Galaxy. The Quebec side has been just outside the top of the Eastern Conference for quite some time, and a victory at Dignity Health Sports Park against MLS' most famous club would surely put Montreal in a celebratory mood.
