The second week of the 2022 MLS season brings about another full slate of weekend matches as teams continue to write the early narrative surrounding their respective campaigns.
One side that will be eager to forget all about Week 1 is the Vancouver Whitecaps. The 'Caps were humiliated by the Columbus Crew, 4-0, in the season opener for both sides as Vancouver looked second-best in every aspect. The Whitecaps will be happy to be back on home soil after opening in Ohio, but their task gets no easier as defending MLS Cup champion New York City FC pays a visit to BC Place on Saturday.
The only team to do worse than Vancouver on opening weekend was FC Cincinnati, which fell 5-0 to Austin FC. Cincy returns home from Texas, hoping the home cooking will help against a visiting D.C. United team that looked very comfortable putting away expansion club Charlotte FC last week.
Speaking of Charlotte, the newest MLS team gets to host its first-ever home game Saturday night against Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and the LA Galaxy. The 75,000-seat Bank of America Stadium is approaching a sell-out for the historic game, so it should make for quite the spectacle in North Carolina.
In addition to Vancouver, the other two Canadian teams will also host their home openers this week. Toronto FC takes on the New York Red Bulls early Saturday, with CF Montreal welcoming the Philadelphia Union to Olympic Stadium a couple of hours later.
