The dog days of summer are here, with action on the field heating up alongside the rising temperatures.
Many MLS teams have made midseason signings to bolster their squads, and those players have recently debuted for their new clubs or are gearing up to do so. One player who has hit the ground running is Cucho Hernandez, the club-record signing for Columbus Crew, who has scored four goals in his first three matches (134 minutes).
The Crew will hope Hernandez's production stays high when they host the New England Revolution, one of the teams chasing them in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Meanwhile out west, Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale both played their maiden minutes for LAFC last week, with Chiellini in the starting XI while Bale came off the bench. Bale is in line for his first MLS start when LAFC travels to Sporting Kansas City.
In Canada, the biggest story is the arrival of Federico Bernardeschi at Toronto FC. The 28-year-old joins countrymen Lorenzo Insigne and Domenico Criscito at the club, and now Bernardeschi and Insigne look to suit up in TFC red for the first time when the team invites Charlotte FC to BMO Field.
