The MLS playoffs inch closer as another full slate of games approaches.
Aside from two-midweek affairs, all of this week's action takes place on Saturday. As with recent weeks, many games serve double importance as teams vie for postseason positioning, with several spots still up for grabs.
In the East, FC Cincinnati heads into the weekend in seventh place — the final playoff spot, with New England just a point back. Miami, Toronto, and Atlanta are the next three chasers, and all are within two positive results of catching the southern Ohio team.
Meanwhile, the final West playoff spot belongs to Portland ahead of the weekend action. The Timbers hold a two-point advantage on the near contender, the LA Galaxy, although the Galaxy have two games in hand. It's a similar situation for ninth-place Seattle Sounders, who hold a game in hand on their Cascadian rivals but trail by three points.
