Liverpool extended their lead atop the Premier League standings with an emphatic 6-3 victory at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Reds scored early and often against a Spurs side that almost seemed averse to defending, with Salah and Luis Diaz each potting two goals while Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai added one apiece for Liverpool, while James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke found the back of the net for the home side.
It was a barnburner to close Matchday 17, and Salah told Sky Sports after the match that Spurs' free-wheeling style was anticipated by the visitors.
"We expected that [high-scoring match], the way they play, they open the game, they enjoy their football, physically tough and mentally we always have to be in the game.
"They don't change much the way they play, it’s intense. City came here [earlier this season] and struggled, other teams too. I’m happy we won because they play an intense game."
But while the result was a positive one for the Reds, who hold a four-point cushion on second-place Chelsea at Christmas, Salah noted that the performance was far from perfect.
"We were quite good up front but defensively we need to improve as a team," he said. "Conceding three goals is quite hard. It’s a good result, hopefully we just keep going."
