Arsenal will be looking for a bounce-back performance when they travel to Newcastle for their penultimate match of the Premier League season on Monday.
The Gunners were humbled 3-0 by rivals Tottenham in the North London Derby last week, a result that allowed Spurs to put themselves back into the race for the coveted fourth-place spot on the table. Tottenham have since leapfrogged Arsenal via a weekend win over Burnley, knocking the Gunners down to fifth and in desperate need of a win at St. James' Park in Monday's match.
"Obviously losing a derby is always painful and having been through the situation we went in the game, it's like that, but as well, you learn a lot probably more than with any victory, so it's good to go through those moments sometimes," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said of the derby defeat.
The thorough manner of the loss had to have negatively affected Arsenal's players, but Arteta said he's confident his men can handle any lingering doubts they have in themselves when they face Newcastle.
"That it was a possibility and that we knew that to get in the position that we are today, a lot has happened in the past and we've been through it, we've experienced it and hopefully, that can help us again on Monday," he said.
Arteta added that he expects his players to show the same excitement on the pitch against the Magpies as they do in training every day.
"The way they've come in [Sunday at training], with the energy that they were with [on Sunday] to play the game and very willing to go there and perform at the highest level."
