Reece James was pulled from Chelsea’s exciting 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday but that hasn’t stopped the England right back from receiving huge acclaim from a former Chelsea player.

Pat Nevin, who starred for Chelsea in the 1980s, has been impressed with his old club’s new captain and he’s even compared the star to David Beckham.

Known for his marauding bursts forward, James’ ability to combine defence with attack has won many plaudits in recent seasons.

A key part of Chelsea’s trophy chances moving forward, James is vital to Chelsea’s attacking play and Nevin has had plenty to say about the thriving 23-year-old.

“If you try to tackle him, you just bounce off him because he is so comfortable on the ball,” said Nevin when speaking to Sporting Post.

“He also puts some crosses in that Beckham would have been proud of. James puts all of these together. He’s similar to a bunch of old players stuck together.

“If James can stay fit, he will certainly become a Chelsea club legend. He can play at right-centre back and right back.

“I think he will eventually end up in midfield and he will be great there. If he keeps getting injured, he won’t have to run up the whole line like at full-back if he was in midfield.”
