Manchester City appeared to be cruising towards a two-goal victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad on Saturday, but the visitors scored twice in the final 15 minutes to force a 2-2 draw against the reigning Premier League champions.

City are embroiled in a heated battle for first place in the league standings, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa all above the Sky Blues on the table. As such, losing two points late against a team in the bottom half of the standings is a slip-up that could prove to haunt the side later in the season, and it's one that manager Pep Guardiola says cannot happen in the future.

"We give away two points for our mistake and what can I say?" Guardiola said to BBC Radio 5 Live. "We do everything and a team that defends in the box like so, so deep.

"They arrive and we are punished but we have to be more calm and composed in that position. It is not the first time but it is what it is. Move forward, learn and [go to the] next one."

Palace earned a penalty in stoppage time that led to Michael Olise's game-tying strike, and it's a situation that Guardiola feels his team should not allow.

"It is so difficult, the physicality of them," he said. "But yeah the penalty cannot happen. It's happened so at the end in that level they punish you."
