Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus were bounced from the Champions League despite defeating 10-man FC Porto 3-2 (4-4 agg.) in Turin on Tuesday.
The Portuguese club earned advancement to the quarterfinal stage by virtue of winning the aggregate over two legs. Porto defeated Juve 2-1 in February's round of 16 first leg and clinched its spot in the next game thanks to the away goal tiebreaker.
It's a heartbreaking way for the Bianconeri to exit the competition, as they appeared to have all the momentum in Tuesday's contest thanks to a pair of second-half goals from Federico Chiesa and a 54th-minute ejection for Porto attacker Mehdi Taremi. But the shorthanded Dragões managed to hold on throughout the scheduled 90 minutes, forcing extra time.
With the away goals rule in effect throughout the extra periods, Porto knew that a single goal would force Juventus to have to score twice. The visitors got their tally in the 115th minute from Sergio Oliveira (who had also scored Porto's opening goal on a 19th-minute penalty).
Adrien Rabiot responded almost immediately for Juve, but the home side ran out of time and saw another Champions League campaign come to an end.
