New year, new Premier League?
As the calendar turns to 2021, the standings remain in flux. Teams such as Leicester, Aston Villa, Everton, Southampton and West Ham all inhabit the top 10 alongside some of the more traditional league powers, with everyone still very much in the race for the title.
What hasn't changed is the team at the top, as defending champion Liverpool continues to hold onto first place despite an injury crisis that would hamstring most clubs. The Reds have perservered through the busiest period of the season seemingly no worse for the wear, and they'll visit Southampton on Jan. 4 for their first match of the new year.
Right behind Liverpool is another traditional powerhouse, although Manchester United's second-place standing surely comes as a surprise after the team's less-than-inspiring start to the 2020-21 campaign. Bad start aside, the Red Devils are now red hot as they've not lost a Premier League contest since Nov. 1. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men kick off 2021 on New Year's Day against Aston Villa, with a chance to go two full months undefeated.
Elsewhere, the match of the week is Sunday's Chelsea vs. Manchester City bout, with both teams looking to keep pace with the league leaders.
Here's the full schedule for Matchday 17 of the Premier League season, with traditional New Year's Day matches on Jan. 1 as well as several more games over the weekend, plus how to watch every game live.
