As October comes to an end, the top three teams in the Premier League have started to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City occupy first through third, respectively, and are only separated by two points. It's not surprising that those three comprise the top group of teams, but what should be mildly astonishing is that it's West Ham that's the only side within reaching distance of the top three.
The Hammers sit on 17 points ahead of the weekend, three back of third-place City and with a very winnable trip to Aston Villa on the horizon.
Elsewhere, Tottenham and Manchester United would fancy themselves as top tier sides, although their results have said otherwise. Tottenham's last five games have included three losses, which sees the north London club languishing in sixth place and a full seven points back of league-leading Chelsea after nine games. As mediocre as it's been for Spurs, seventh-place United's facing an even bigger crisis after having been played off the pitch last week by Liverpool and with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job under scrutiny.
The two struggling sides meet Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, each desperately needing a victory.
