Three months ago, the entire sporting landscape came to an immediate halt as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Leagues all over the world were indefinitely suspended or outright canceled as people everywhere coped with the outbreak.
In recent weeks, soccer has returned, with the Bundesliga being the first major league to resume play. Now, the Premier League has also returned.
The initial decision to halt the Premier League season was made on March 13, two days after Manchester City’s clash with Arsenal was postponed due to the pandemic. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was the league’s first public case, prompting the league to initially suspend play. On March 19, that suspension was extended before an April 3 announcement that play would be postponed indefinitely.
That indefinite suspension ended on June 17, with a pair of matches, as Aston Villa and Sheffield United played to a 0-0 draw, and Manchester City defeated Arsenal 3-0.
The following week, Liverpool officially clinched the title with their win over Crystal Palace followed by Manchester City's loss to Chelsea.
