The Premier League giant heads home with two away goals in hand.

Manchester City overcame an early deficit to claim a 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal on Wednesday.

Second-half goals by Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez propelled the Sky Blues to the victory in Paris after Marquinhos had put the home side up at the quarter-hour mark.

Marquinhos' 15th-minute opener continued his clutch knockout-round play for PSG. Above everyone else inside the City penalty area, the Brazilian rose to meet a free-kick and nod home, giving him a goal in each of the Champions League quarterfinals and semifinals in back-to-back years.

The home side was able to stifle the visitors for the next 50 minutes as City held more of the ball but created fewer chances. De Bruyne would rather fortuitously give the Sky Blues their breakthrough in the 64th minute, as his lobbed cross into the box evaded everyone and bounced inside the far post and past a frozen Keylor Navas.

Buoyed by the equalizer, City found the winner just seven minutes later as Mahrez threaded a 25-yard free-kick through a seemingly impossible small gap in the PSG wall and into Navas' goal.

Things only got worse for PSG as midfielder Idrissa Gueye got himself sent off in the 77th minute after a brutal challenge on Ilkay Gundogan. The City player lay clutching his ankle for several minutes before somehow continuing the match, but the hosts weren't so lucky as they had to finish the contest down a man.

City wasn't content with just holding on, as Mahrez and Phil Foden each had the opportunity to widen the gap. However, the Sky Blues would have to settle for the one-goal margin of victory as their late-game flurry didn't produce another away marker.
