The 2020-21 UEFA Champions League hits the ground running on Tuesday when Paris Saint-Germain hosts Manchester United.
It's the kind of glamour matchup that makes the tournament the most-watched club competition in the world, even if both sides aren't at the top of their respective games.
PSG started the Ligue 1 campaign with a pair of losses — punctuated by suspensions for stars Neymar and Angel Di Maria for their part in a brawl between Paris and Marseille players — but has since rung off five straight victories as the capital city giant surges back towards the top of the table. Di Maria's four-match ban doesn't apply to the Champions League, meaning the Argentine will be well-rested and able to participate against his former club.
Meanwhile, Neymar was held out of PSG's 4-0 win over Nimes on Oct. 16 to allow the Brazil star to get some rest ahead of a busy stretch of games, which means he should also be fresh for Tuesday's clash.
For United, the Champions League comes at a time when the traditional English power sits just 14th in the Premier League and surrounded by uncertainty. The Red Devils won their most recent EPL match 4-1 against Newcastle, but questions still abound in regards to United's legitimacy as a challenger for a top four spot this season.
One Manchester player who needs no motivation for Tuesday's match is former PSG star Edinson Cavani, although the Uruguayan attacker's participation is in doubt as he has only taken part in two training sessions with the Red Devils after joining the club earlier this month.
An arguably bigger potential absence for United is Harry Maguire, whose fitness is in question ahead of the match. The team captain, Maguire has had a rough start to the campaign but scored United's first goal and played a starring role in the win over Newcastle.
