A determined PSV Eindhoven team overcame a massive possession disadvantage to topple Arsenal 2-0 on Thursday.

The match was a frustrating one for the Gunners, who held 70 percent of the ball and created more chances than their Dutch hosts. However, PSV looked the more dangerous of the two sides from the early going and had actually put the ball into the back of the net twice in the first half, only to see both goals disallowed due to offside calls.

That should have been the wake-up call needed for Arsenal to convert its possession dominance into goals, but instead, it was PSV that would break the ice as Joey Veerman scored the opening goal in the 55th minute. PSV doubled the lead eight minutes later as Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale mistimed a clearing attempt off a corner kick, allowing Luuk de Jong the opportunity to nod the ball into the Gunners' net.

Things nearly got worse for the visitors just three minutes after the de Jong strike as PSV was judged to have scored yet another offside goal, the third of the match for the home side. Arsenal would find opportunities of their own in the final quarter-hour, but nothing that would spoil goalkeeper Walter Benítez's clean sheet as PSV kept its hopes of finishing first in Group A alive.
