Arsenal are perfect through the first four rounds of play in the Europa League group stage, but their passage to the round of 16 has not yet been booked.
The Gunners can clinch first place in Group A with a win or draw at PSV Eindhoven on Thursday, which would allow the Premier League side to avoid having to go through the knockout round playoffs against a third-place Champions League club.
It's a little bit of security worth playing for, according to Mikel Arteta.
"This competition is getting harder and harder and how it looks today and what the possibilities are, it looks like the next round will be extremely competitive," the Arsenal manager said. "That’s why finishing first in the group and avoiding another two games is such an important thing for us."
PSV and Arsenal met last week in a rescheduled Matchday 2 encounter, with the Gunners prevailing thanks to a Granit Xhaka strike in the 70th minute (highlights below). A similar result would push the north London side into the round of 16 and would be "Mission: Accomplished" for Arteta's men in the group stage with a game to spare.
"Last week we made the first step to qualify to the next round, and now we need to win [Thursday] because we want to finish first," Arteta said.
