A hard-fought match was decided in the dying moments as RB Leipzig defeated Atletico Madrid to move on to the Champions League semifinals.

RB Leipzig is one step away from the UEFA Champions League final after defeating Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Thursday in Lisbon.

Second-half goals from Dani Olmo and Tyler Adams were enough for Leipzig to dispatch Atletico in the quarterfinals of the revamped tournament, extending the German side's best-ever run in the competition by at least one more round.

A 71st-minute penalty from Atletico's star youngster Joao Felix gave the Spanish side some hope of a comeback similar to Paris Saint-Germain's a day previous, but the Red Bulls continued their possession dominance to maintain a quick pace in attack, which eventually led to Adams' longe-range deflected winner.

The result sees Leipzig into a semifinal match next week against PSG.

DAZN News provided live updates of all the action from Thursday's match as it happened. Here's how it went down.

Full time: RB Leipzig 2, Atletico Madrid 1

(All times Eastern)

Second half

4:59 p.m. - Despite some desperate attacking at the end by Atletico, RB Leipzig holds on! The German side is off to the semis!

4:58 p.m. - Almost seven minutes into the five added minutes, and there's a scrum between the players. 🤷🏻‍♂️

4:51 p.m. - Five minutes to be added on. What can Atletico do?

4:48 p.m. - ⚽️ GOAL! RB's Adams hits a booming shot from long range that deflects off a defender and nestles into the net. The young American made a great trailing run to get himself wide open for a pass from Angelino. The former MLSers hook up to give their team the lead. Leipzig 2, Atletico 1 .

4:47 p.m. - 🟡 Haidara, having just entered the match, bundles into Llorente and earns a yellow.

4:43 p.m. - 🔁 Leipzig with two more changes: Schick and Haidara in, Olmo and Nkunku out.

4:42 p.m. - 🟡 RB's Kampl takes a booking after tugging on Llorente's shirt and stopping a clear Atletico attack.

4:40 p.m. - 10 minutes to go. Is extra time looming or will we see another late winner in the UCL quarterfinals?

4:33 p.m. - 🔁 Each team makes a change immediately after the goal. Morata in, Costa out for Atletico. Adams in, Laimer out for Leipzig.

4:31 p.m. - ⚽️ GOAL! Felix uses a very short run up and converts the penalty by smashing it into the lower left corner. Leipzig 1, Atletico 1.

4:30 p.m. - 🟡 PENALTY! Klostermann dives in on Felix and it's a spot kick for Atletico and a yellow card for the RB Defender.

4:27 p.m. - Atletico is predictably starting to push forward more often, but that's allowing more space for Leipzig. The Red Bulls are moving the ball around impressively, with great passing sequences all over the pitch. This is lovely stuff to watch.

4:22 p.m. - 🟡 Lodi gets the game's first yellow for simulation after he goes down easy in the Leipzig box. RB's Upamecano started pleading his case immediately upon hearing the whistle, but there was no need as the referee agreed that it was a dive.

4:18 p.m. - 🔁 Joao Felix makes his anticipated entrance for Atletico, with Herrera departing. The 20-year-old Portuguese starlet has just over a half-hour to help turn this match around.

4:13 p.m. - Llorente bulldozes his way in from the right flank to get in close, but Gulasci charges in to grab the ball before the Atletico man can get off a shot.

4:06 p.m. - And we're back!

First half

3:50 p.m. - It's halftime and there have been no goals. Leipzig has been the better of the two teams, but not overwhelmingly. Leipzig 0, Atletico 0 .

3:49 p.m. - Savic, head wrapped up, gets a header off a free kick but it's well wide.

3:48 p.m. - CHANCE! Upamecano gets a strong header on goal off a corner kick, but his effort is directly at Oblak. Had he nodded left or right it would likely be 1-0 Leipzig right now.

3:46 p.m. - We're into four added minutes of time, which seems low considering the stoppage to attend to Savic and Halstenberg's injuries.

3:41 p.m. - Leipzig continues to get into the Atletico box, but the final product isn't there. You have to think that Timo Werner would've helped in that regard, but the team's (former) highest scorer is now a Chelsea player despite the season not having ended.

3:39 p.m - After a lengthy stoppage, we're back underway with neither player looking too much worse for wear.

3:35 p.m. - An ugly clash of heads at the midfield line followed by a loud yell from one of the players who collided. Atletico's Savic and Halstenberg of Leipzig are both cut pretty badly after that clash and are being stitched up.

3:27 p.m. - Leipzig's carrying 65 percent of the possession through 27 minutes, but Atletico's press is keeping play mostly out of the danger areas.

3:24 p.m. - Not a lot of chances on either side yet, but the pace of the game is higher than a normal "cagey first half," so it feels like something is coming.

3:16 p.m. - There was a penalty shout from the Atletico players in the immediate aftermath of that Carrasco chance as a player appeared to be clipped from behind inside the area. However, the replays appear to show that the player tripped on his own, and thus the VAR check has ended. There was no stoppage in play during that check.

3:13 p.m. - CHANCE! Huge save by Gulasci after Carrasco's one-timed side-footer seemed destined for the goal. Atletico's getting into this match now.

3:10 p.m. - Atletico gets its first look at goal via a weak header by Savic on a set-piece. It's easily taken by RB goalkeeper Gulacsi.

3:04 p.m. - Bright start for Leipzig, with most of the play in the attacking third so far. Halstenberg with the first half-chance of the game after a corner kick, but his effort is well off target.

3:00 p.m - After a moment of silence, we are underway!
