Both goals came in the first half of a rain-soaked match.

Real Madrid and Chelsea played to a 1-1 draw in Spain on Tuesday in the first leg of their 2020-21 UEFA Champions League semifinal tie, setting up a potentially thrilling second leg next week.

Chelsea's Christian Pulisic and Karim Benzema of Madrid each scored in the first half, ensuring that the Premier League side will head home to Stamford Bridge with a slight advantage.

Pulisic's composure was on full display in the 14th minute as the American received a long ball inside the Madrid penalty area and calmly baited Thibaut Courtois into chasing him before rounding the doomed goalkeeper and firing through a couple of defenders for the opener.

Chelsea's lead only lased 15 minutes, though. After ringing a shot off the post moments earlier, Benzema gave Madrid the equalizer just before the half-hour mark with an audacious volley.

The teams would trade chances for the rest of the contest, with Chelsea outshooting the home side 11-9 (5-1 shots on target) in a match that was played through a downpour. However, neither side could find the go-ahead goal, leaving all to play for in London.
