Real Madrid, Man Utd and Al-Nassr: Three destinations for Kylian Mbappe as PSG set deadline over future

Real Madrid, Man Utd and Al-Nassr: Three destinations for Kylian Mbappe as PSG set deadline over futureDAZN

With Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi telling Kylian Mbappe that he has two weeks to make his mind up, and that the door is open to leave if he decides to quit the club, a number of sides will be hoping to land the French striker.

Mbappe is perhaps the best striker in European football, though Erling Haaland might now be able to claim that he is the very best after an exceptional season with Manchester City that landed him the treble and around a goal a game.

City boss Pep Guardiola has denied his interest in the player, saying that everyone knows where he wants to go - presumably Real Madrid.

But with Mbappe’s talent and PSG’s desire to sell him this season rather than lose him for nothing in 2024, we take a look at a couple of other options for the Frenchman.

Real Madrid

The only wrinkle in the plan to land the player seems to be that Florentino Perez has no intention of spending the sum - anywhere between £100 million and double that - to land a player who will be available for nothing next season.

Similarly, the player himself must recognise that he could earn himself a huge signing-on bonus from any side that does not have to splash out on a transfer fee for him.

Real Madrid need a striker having lost Karim Benzema this summer, but they have signed Joselu as a stop-gap to play alongside Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr., and spent £100m on bringing Jude Bellingham in from Borussia Dortmund. It would surely take serious interest from another credible contender for them to act this summer.

Al-Nassr

The same entry can be written for any of the major Saudi clubs that are backed by the state. They have spent hundreds of millions already over the last year to bring players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to the Saudi Pro League, and they would certainly be tempted to spend big to attract premier talent to the Kingdom to further enhance their claims of credibility for their footballing setup.

While it seems absurd to imagine Mbappe would consider moving away from Europe when he is still just 24, the chances of earning life-defining sums of money have motivated other players at their peak before - just look at Oscar.

Manchester United

One might mention Arsenal and Liverpool, too, as they could offer their rich history to seduce Mbappe, and Premier League wages remain some of the highest in the world.

While Liverpool have the appeal of their excellent manager, and the chance to challenge City for the title if their rebuild is successful, Arsenal - and perhaps Chelsea - could offer the glamour of London.

United might not have the cachet they once did, but assuming Qatar takes over at Old Trafford, they would not have to necessarily worry about the economics of putting together an attractive package for the player.
