The Spanish giants sit atop Group F with 10 points from five matches, one point above RB Leipzig and knowing that a win at home on Wednesday would secure the best seeding for the knockout round.
Standing in Madrid's way are Celtic, the Scottish side that have long been eliminated from the competition and are now simply looking to play the role of spoilers. And while it would be normal for most teams to look at a game against Celtic on the final matchday as a bit of a walk in the park, Real Madrid are far from "most teams" and have a reputation as the winningest side in the competition's history to uphold.
“The team needs a victory," Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos said. "We’re motivated to get the win [Wednesday] and finish the group in first place, which is always our objective. We’ve got the team to do it. We need to put on a good performance, as always, to win in the Champions League.”
