Karim Benzema's hat-trick in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal between Real Madrid and Chelsea sees the Spanish giants with a massive advantage ahead of Tuesday's second leg, but the Premier League side won't be going down without a fight.
While the challenge is a big one, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel doesn't think the formula for his team's success is too complicated.
"[We can win] by not accepting it and by leaving everything on the pitch that we have and by showing that we can work harder, that we can play better, that we know that we can take more risks and that we show our true face and live up to our full potential," he said. "That’s what we should do first and then we accept what comes after."
Tuchel pointed to Chelsea's hectic schedule as a factor in the team's first-leg 3-1 loss at Stamford Bridge, and stressed that his players will need to find a way past the fatigue if they are going to be able to pull off an improbable comeback at the Santiago Bernabeu.
"We struggled last week to implement that [intensity], we struggled with our counter-pressing and finding work and finding intensity in runs," Tuchel explained. "Can we do it now? Let’s see. The game is totally different but we will need to find a way to play a more physical game and of course this is a part of the solution."
